Mister Bob and Mister Joe are busy building props while Miss Laura has selected music and choreography to showcase the dancers' talents. Miss Laura and Miss Elizabeth are creating wonderful and unique pieces for Showcase. The majority of classes have begun learning the new combinations, steps, and variations to be performed at Grover C Fields on May 26th. Showcase is in a few short weeks, so please make every effort to attend all classes so dancers will perform their best at Showcase!
Our Spring Showcase has been moved from Cherry Point's Station Theatre to Grover C Fields Middle School here in New Bern. The date and time are the same - May 26th at 1:00PM.
Showcase is a big undertaking with lots of work and coordination needed ahead of time to ensure a wonderful experience for your dancer and an enjoyable event for the whole family. As information becomes available it will be added to the Spring Showcase page of our website.
Parents are now needed to put together costumes, table decorations and props. Donated items for table decorations and props are always welcome. Also, parents will soon be contacted to start organizing the various volunteer efforts that are needed the day of Showcase. Please see the volunteers page for your duty and your organizer.
Just a reminder that the $45 participation fee is due with your April tuition. Mr. Bob will be sending an e-mail reminder to families that have not already paid the Participation Fee.
Showcase provides an opportunity for each dancer at NBB to Showcase what they have studied and worked on throughout the school year. For many, it will also be the first time on stage and as part of an ensemble cast. Showcase is also a great opportunity for the younger students to see what they will become as they watch the Intermediate and Advanced dancers. We hope that families with younger dancers will take the time to watch the entire performance. Showcase is for the entire school to perform but it is not mandatory. It is a choice for dancers and their families to participate.
Our Spring Showcase is different than a recital. A recital typically will have a theme, but each class does their own dance and there’s not much interaction between classes. Starting and stopping between each class can also make for a lengthy performance. There may be a theme that ties all the dancing and costumes together in a recital, but it is not story telling. Miss Laura choreographs a contemporary story in the ballet tradition to perform at Spring Showcase. Dancers of all ages interact as the story unfolds. For the 2011/12 school year, we will be Showcasing our students with the classic story of Swan Lake.
Our showcase has been performed at Garber United Methodist's Fellowship Center the past several years. They've notified us that they've permanently modified their stage and can no longer accommodate our Spring Showcase. We have several options but have not picked a location for this year's production as yet.
